When our under-eyes turn shadowy, sunken, swollen or puffed, from sleepless nights, physical or mental stress, having worked with the computer for long hours and so on, the fatigue will prominently show on our faces. The area around our eyes is very delicate and can easily be susceptible to consequences of stress and exhaustion. Hence the under-eyes need to be properly taken care of, in order to sport a bright and fresh looking face.
KEEP YOURSELF WELL HYDRATED
It is essential that you keep yourself well hydrated. Water intake helps in preventing water retention around your eyes and making it less puffy or swollen. Dry, flaky and dehydrated skin also causes the delicate under-eye region to darken. Drinking at least two litres of water per day will keep dehydration at bay and your under-eyes taut and bright.
CUT DOWN ON YOUR INTAKE OF SALT
Too much of salt intake affects water retention under-eyes therefore causing our eyes to look puffy. Try reducing the intake of salt in your diet and wash it out of your body with ample water.
SWITCH PILLOWCASES FROM TIME TO TIME
Your pillowcase accumulates germs over time from constant contact with your skin, which causes redness, darkening to your eyes. Changing your pillowcase from time to time will keep your eyes and the region around it healthy.
REMOVE MAKE UP AND PAMPER YOUR UNDER-EYES
Make sure to remove make-up before you go to bed, as any residue of make-up can cause your under-eyes to look dark and shadowy. Also, just as you go through the procedure of cleansing toning and moisturising for your face, take separate care of the region around your eyes too as the skin around your eyes is way more delicate. Massage almond oil gently into the under-eye and leave it over night. You could also add 2 or 3 drops of vitamin E oil into a cup of chilled water, dip a cotton pad into the mixture, apply it on the area and leave it on for 20 minutes.
WEAR SHADES TO LIMIT SUN EXPOSURE
Don’t let your eyes be in exposure to the sun, as sun raises melanin level in the skin and exposure to the sun can cause melanin to come to the surface of the skin which adds to darkening of the area around your eyes. So you could wear dark glasses to protect your eyes from the direct rays of the sun. You could also soak a hand towel in chilled water, and then place it over your eyes; it constricts the blood vessels around your eyes diminishing puffiness and dark circles.
USE CHILLED SPOONS AND COLD COMPRESS
Chill four metal spoons over night in your refrigerator and place them over your under-eyes in the morning, alternating between the two sets of spoons and leave for a few minutes. The chill will control the blood circulation around the under-eye region which will prevent puffiness and darkening.
ENGAGE IN YOGA OR EXERCISE
Exercise helps in securing appropriate blood circulation, restoring mental fitness, and eradicating stress and depression which lays its impact on the region around your eyes, making it look dull and sunken. Exercise or yoga can rejuvenate your mood hence make you look brighter and reduce the dark circles under your eyes.
GET SEVEN TO EIGHT HOURS OF SLEEP DAILY
It is quite difficult nowadays to get proper sleep amidst our busy schedules. But not getting enough sleep affects not just internally but externally as well, especially the skin around our eyes. One must try not to read or sit in front of the screen at night in low light. Get yourself at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep and do what you have to in the morning.
Treat with care the region around your eyes as they require better looking after than the whole of your face, as they are the most significant and prominent feature of your face that in fact defines how you look.
