Teenage acne control and prevention

During our teenage years we seem to go through a lot of physical and emotional changes. Acne is one of our constant companions during these times. During puberty our body is subjected to numerous hormonal changes which cause the sebaceous glands to secrete more sebum. Excess sebum causes clogging of the pores. Bacteria, oil and other impurities get caught in the pores resulting in acne. Acne is a common occurrence but that doesn’t mean it cannot be cured. Mentioned here are certain treatments which can help you get rid of acne.

  1. Cleansing

If you have acne then it is important that you clean your skin more often. Use a gentle face wash to clean your face. By cleansing your skin regularly, you prevent dust and oil from accumulating on your face which aggravate acne.

  1. Moisturizing

Certain acne products might irritate the skin and leave it drier than before. Use a moisturizer that is apt for your skin. People with oily skin should use gel based moisturizers while the ones with dry skin are advised to use cream based moisturizers.

  1. Don’t touch your face

A lot of us have the habit of touching our faces on and off. People with acne must avoid doing this as touching might result in the spread of bacteria from our hands to our face leading to inflammation of the skin.

  1. Use salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid help in promoting new skin growth. These products which are available in the form of soaps and lotions can be used daily on acne spots. Try to use a product that contains less than 3% of these ingredients so as to avoid irritation.
