Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi might need a lesson in the art of the compliment.

Giving a speech at Dhaka University on Sunday during a two-day visit to neighbouring Bangladesh, Modi is reported to have said: “I am happy that Bangladesh Prime Minister, despite being a woman, has declared zero tolerance for terrorism.”

Infuriated comments have started pouring on social media shortly afterwards and the hashtags #DespiteBeingAWoman and #ModiInsultsWomen have been trending on Twitter ever since.

This wasn’t the first sexist remark by the Indian Prime Minister but Modi supporters still tried fighting back by using their own hashtag:
