Time flies in a jiffy, and so does our youth, before we even realize it, which is why it is important that we recognize the value of each moment in our lives and utilise those moments to trigger the ultimate sense of satisfaction and happiness in ourselves.
For some of us it might take a comparatively shorter span of time to start earning and hence acquiring the freedom to spend on oneself and live independently, while for some of us, it might take quite a bit of time. It all depends on what may be the kind of career that we choose to pursue.
But the point that I am trying to make here is, no matter how old you are before you start earning quite a sum, don’t let age take its toll on you. Make time for yourself and even for your partner, do what you have been longing to do for years now, before you commit your life to your little ones.
Yes children are an important part of our lives but they can’t constitute the whole of our lives. We must know that our life is ours to live and we as individuals must comprehend its worth, before we commit to our children who are only a part of us. Don’t miss out on the whole, while you focus on just a part.
Here’s how to acknowledge the worth of life and live it to the fullest before you have children.
SPEND MONEY ON YOURSELF WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT
While you save money for your children who are yet to come, don’t forget to spend money on yourself. Learn to enjoy your life without restrains.
Spend as much as you want on yourself. It doesn’t matter how and where you spend up until a certain age in your life when you won’t have responsibility to fulfil as part of a family and as a parent. Don’t think twice. Splurge and indulge in the things that you long for. It’s your hard earned money and only you decide as to how you’re going to use.
However, it is always better to set a part of the income aside as savings for any emergency, so that at times of emergency you won’t need to borrow or beg from your parents, friends or whoever. A savings should be maintained for personal security.
TRAVEL THE WORLD OR AT LEAST A PART OF IT
You’re going to miss out on a lot if you don’t save some of that money and visit places around the world. It is meant to be a delightfully enriching experience that you absolutely shouldn’t deprive yourself of.
Along with the savings, set aside another part of the income which of course you are going to spend on yourself but in a different way. You’re going to save that bit of money to be able to travel. You want to visit places throughout the world, attain knowledge, get to know new people, understand how it is to live alone in a completely different place, far away from your comfort zone. Travelling is very important for an individual and your youth is the right time to engage in travelling, when you are still learning. Don’t save it for when you are married and have children to look after. Travel without any pin downs and responsibility for someone else. Do it just for yourself, independently. You won’t regret it.
GET TO KNOW YOUR PARTNER FOR REAL
It’s important that you understand the person you’re going to spend your entire life with before you decide to have children with said person. Understand if you both are suited to each other and are prepared to work things out together in raising a child, taking full responsibility for it.
You must not rush into marriage with just anybody you kind of like, only because you’re being pushed to get married. Wait and take time to get to know them better. They might seem very sweet, charming and understanding initially, because that’s how every individual is at the beginning when they are trying hard to impress. However along the way you might realise that they are not really very calm headed or aren’t really as compromising at they portrayed themselves to be.
Even after you get married, it is essential that you spend enough quality time with your spouse before you guys decide on having children. Once you have children, it will not be very easy to spare time for one another because they child will inevitably come in the way. Enjoy your youth with your love to the fullest and make sure there aren’t any wishes or desires that remain unfulfilled. There shouldn’t be any regrets.
START SAVING FOR YOUR RETIREMENT
Don’t put aside all of your earnings into planning the bringing up of your children. Set aside a lump sum for your retirement period from early on; right from the time you start to earn.
It is always advisable to not depend on anybody to support you during your old age. Financial independence will promise you peace of mind.
MAKE MUSIC, WRITE YOUR OWN BOOK OR DO SOMETHING SPECIAL JUST FOR YOURSELF
Do something solely for yourself, such as writing a book or forming a musical band and propagate your talent through them. Foster your talents and make memories you’re going to cherish throughout your life. There shouldn’t be any regrets regarding your not being able to make the fullest use of your potential and talents.
SPEND TIME PAMPERING YOURSELF EVEN IF IT MEANS SLEEPING TILL LATE AND DOING NOTHING
Sleep every Sunday till late in the afternoon. Spend time doing nothing if you please, because like John Lennon said, “Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.” Make sure you have that time to yourself, which you rather enjoy wasting. You owe it to yourself.
WORK WHENEVER OR WHEREVER YOU WANT
Change your job while you’re young to find out which suits you best. Try out whatever you want to. Let not familial responsibilities come in the way of what your ideal job demands. Make full use of your youth and freedom before you start to make compromises for your little ones.
GET DRUNK AND FEEL THE HIGH
Go out with friends, hang out till late, play snooker, poker; drink once in a while, get high on weed. Enjoy yourself without a care. As long as you know your limits, it doesn’t matter.
FIGURE OUT WHERE YOUR LIFE IS HEADED
Know what you really want out of your life. The career path that you want to choose, the kind of job you would want to settle for, the kind of person you’d like to have as your life partner and most importantly the kind of person you see yourself as. It is very important that you learn to create an independent identity for yourself which should never merge with your identity as a mother.
GET YOURSELF PETS BEFORE YOU GET KIDS
Keep pets, spend money on them. They’re like faux children. They are children, except they aren’t human. Pets will help you get used to taking care of little dependent creatures; will teach you to compromise and love, while also helping you turn into a responsible guardian.
These are a few things you need to remember to do for yourself before you have children. Don’t leave any place for regrets. Make the most of your days of youth and live your life to the fullest. Leave your comments in the section just below this post.
