 Self-doubt: How to counter it?

None of us are perfect. In fact, I believe, it is our imperfection that makes us unique. However, there might be times when the best of us begin to doubt our abilities. Truly, this is part and parcel of being human. The situation might turn so chronic that you might refuse to believe in your worth.

Feeling lost and lacking in confidence? Here, we list 4 things you should remember when in self- doubt!

We are driven by what others want to make us believe in:

Have you noticed how strong people’s perceptions of us are? Do you feel that what others think of you influences your outlook, your understandings and your capabilities? You need to repeatedly remind yourself that nobody can make you feel bad about unless you want them to. Even their understandings are limited. Therefore, what others perceive of you is bound to have shortcomings. If you always buy their thoughts and arguments, it means you have a low self-esteem.

So, work on it. Rest assured, you are much better than what people make you feel you are. Ask those to evaluate you, who you think are honest or have been your well-wishers. Reason what you should trust and what not. Go with your instinct, it never lies.

Self- doubt can limit your possibilities of success:

Self – doubt is so toxic that it can inhibit your ability to look out for better prospects. In fact, people get so enticed that the fear of failure looms large. The fact that your future ventures are risky and may doom your life makes you want to play it safe all the time. Success does not come to those who wish to cage themselves. You only learn when you fail. Nothing great comes to those who fear taking risks. As the saying goes, a smooth sea never made a skilful sailor.

There is always a next time:

You may have missed out on better opportunities. But remind yourself that everything has an extension. Nothing is running away. But that doesn’t mean you should sit back and relax. Rather, that you can hit back on missed opportunities by keeping track of what’s coming your way. This can be anything from expressing your feelings for someone or learning a new skill. Have faith in yourself and you can always do things with the correct approach at the right time.

You judge your actions on the basis of your preconceived notions. When faced with this scenario, tell yourself how good you are at what you know or do; and how good your actions have made you feel previously. Only when you think positively, you move beyond the boundaries you have created.

You have been made to believe that you lack the capability to achieve what you want. But trust me, you are way beyond what you think. In fact, if you channel your strengths in the right direction, you can always bring out the best you possess.
