Sonam Kapoor is known as much for her acting prowess, most notably in movies like Raanjhanaa and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, as she is for her enviable beauty and fashion sense. So popular is this young actress not only among the Bollywood and Hindi communities, but also in the United States of America and Europe that she has been featured on the covers of popular mainstream magazines such as Elle, Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar just to name a few.

As of late, what has been creating all of the buzz, particularly in the Bollywood community, has been her appearance at the GQ Man of The Year Awards 2013. Kapoor set tongues wagging not only over her gorgeous animal print dress, but also over her sophisticated and chic updo hairstyle.

To replicate this updo hairstyle, just follow these simple instructions below:

What You Will Need

First, you will need to purchase the products which are necessary for this hairstyle (that is if you do not already have these products at home). You will need:

–       shampoo
–       conditioner
–       a hair towel
–       a blow-dryer
–       a heat-protecting spray or serum
–       a barrel brush
–       hair ties
–       a hair donut or a sock with the toe area cut off
–       hair pins and bobby pins
–       hair polisher
–       hair spray

Method

Once you assemble all of the products, you will next need to wash your hair to ensure that it is clean and free from any excess oils or product build-up. To do this, first shampoo your hair and rinse thoroughly with water. Repeat with shampoo if necessary. Then condition your hair, and again, rinse thoroughly with water.

Next, towel dry your hair with a hair towel. Once you have removed the excess moisture from your hair, place a dime-sized amount of heat-protecting spray or serum in your hand. Distribute the product evenly throughout your hair. You may find that you need more or less product, depending on how long or short your hair is.

With the blow-dryer on a cool or low setting and the barrel brush, blow-dry your hair until it is completely dry.

Next, using the same barrel brush, smooth your hair into a high ponytail. Secure your hair with a hair tie.

Once this is done, use the hair donut and place this at the base of you ponytail, where your hair tie has been secured. If you do not have a hair donut, use a sock instead. Simply take the cut sock and starting at the top of the sock, roll the sides downwards till you cannot roll anymore. You should now have what resembles a donut, or a circle with a hole in the middle. Place the sock at the base of the hair where the hair tie is.

Next, section off a small piece of your hair and separate this from the rest of your hair with a hair tie.

Fan out the hair which is not in the hair tie over the hair donut/ sock, making sure that the hair donut/ sock is completely concealed.

Wrap the ends of your hair around the hair donut/ sock and use the hair pins to pin your hair in place. Be sure to keep the hair which is in the hair tie out of the way. You should now have a bun.

Now, remove the hair tie which is around the small section of hair. Wrap this hair loosely around the bun. Pin in place with some hair pins to secure the hair.

And that’s it. You can now enjoy your Sonam Kapoor inspired updo!
