Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi might need a lesson in the art of the compliment.

Giving a speech at Dhaka University on Sunday during a two-day visit to neighbouring Bangladesh, Modi is reported to have said: “I am happy that Bangladesh Prime Minister, despite being a woman, has declared zero tolerance for terrorism.”

Infuriated comments have started pouring on social media shortly afterwards and the hashtags #DespiteBeingAWoman and #ModiInsultsWomen have been trending on Twitter ever since.
